HAMCLOCK in Windows

Doorloop de volgende stappen vanuit Windows10:

1. Open een Command Window met in het zoekvenster CMD (uitvoeren als Administrator)

2. Op de Command Prompt voer in: wsl --install

[Wacht tot de PC/laptop klaar is met installeren]

3. Restart de PC/laptop. De PC/laptop stelt een aantal services in bij het opnieuw opstarten. Ubuntu start automatisch in een Command venster (duurt lang, afhankelijk van de PC/laptop).

[Mocht dit langer dan 5 minuten duren, restart dan de PC en start UBUNTU vanuit Windows op.]

4. Vul een username en wachtwoord (2x) in (er is geen echo zichtbaar in het type-scherm ivm privacy) en onthoud deze goed.

[De verwerking hiervan kost ook even tijd]

5. Update en upgrade op de UBUNTU-prompt: sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

6. Doorloop de volgende commands op de UBUNTU-prompt:

• • sudo apt install curl make g++ xorg-dev libx11-dev zip
  • cd (er gebeurt waarschijnlijk niets zichtbaars)
  • rm -fr ESPHamClock (er gebeurt waarschijnlijk niets zichtbaars)
  • curl -O https://www.clearskyinstitute.com/ham/HamClock/ESPHamClock.zip
  • unzip ESPHamClock.zip
  • cd ESPHamClock
  • make -j 4 hamclock                     (optioneel: make -j 4 hamclock-web-1600x960 als extra scherm niet noodzakelijk is)
  • sudo make install

Sluit het UBUNTU scherm.

7. Open een Command Window met in het zoekvenster CMD (uitvoeren als Administrator). In het DOS scherm type wsl sudo hamclock &

[HamClock start wel op maar heeft op het scherm vreemde grafische uitdagingen. Minimize de vensters.]

8. In een webbrowser open http://127.0.0.1:8081/live.html  [of het netwerkadres http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8081/live.html]

9. Hiermee is de HAMCLOCK verder te aanschouwen en te besturen.

Elke keer dat je HAMCLOCK weer wilt opstarten begin je bij stap 7 (en verder).

Voor de "luie" operators onder ons heb ik een script geschreven die de stappen 7 en verder met een enkele muisklik uitvoert.  Zie onderaan de inrichting hiervan (engelse instructie).

Aanvullende waarschuwing: het processorgebruik gaat met 14 procent omhoog als HamClock actief is.

Go through the following steps from Windows10:

1. Open a Command Window with CMD (Run as Administrator) in the search window.

2. At the Command Prompt enter: wsl --install

[Wait for the PC/laptop to finish installing].

3. Restart the PC/laptop. The PC/laptop sets up some services on restart. Ubuntu automatically starts in a Command window (takes a long time, depending on the PC/laptop).

[Should this take longer than 5 minutes, restart the PC and boot UBUNTU from Windows].

4. Fill in a username and password (2x) (no echo is visible in the type screen because of privacy) and remember them well.

[Processing this, also takes some time].

5. Update and upgrade at the UBUNTU prompt: sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

6. Run through the following commands at the UBUNTU prompt:

• • sudo apt install curl make g++ xorg-dev libx11-dev zip
  • cd (nothing visible will probably happen)
  • rm -fr ESPHamClock (probably nothing visible will happen)
  • curl -O https://www.clearskyinstitute.com/ham/HamClock/ESPHamClock.zip
  • unzip ESPHamClock.zip
  • cd ESPHamClock
  • make -j 4 hamclock                       (optional: make -j 4 hamclock-web-1600x960 if extra screen is not required)
  • sudo make install

Close the UBUNTU screen.

7. Open a Command Window with CMD (Run as Administrator) in the search window. In the DOS screen type wsl sudo hamclock &

[HamClock does start up but has strange graphical challenges on the screen. Minimize the windows].

8. In a Web browser, open http://127.0.0.1:8081/live.html [or the network address http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8081/live.html].

9. This allows you to continue to view and control HAMCLOCK.

In case you would like to single click a batch-file on your desktop follow the following instructions.

1. First we get rid of the password requirement from Ubuntu. 

2. To disable the password prompt for sudo commands in Ubuntu on Windows, you can follow these steps:

a. Open a terminal in Ubuntu on Windows.

b. Open the sudoers file in a text editor with root privileges. You can do this using the following command: sudo visudo

c. Add the following line to the end of the file: <username> ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD:ALL

d. Replace <username> with your actual username.

e. Save the file and close the text editor.

3. Create a batchfile on you desktop and open it with a text editor. (Right mouse click on your desktop; new; text-file. Name it xxx.TXT. After step 4 rename text file from TXT to BAT extention).

4. Paste the following code in the editor:

@echo off
start cmd /k cd C:\Windows\System32
start cmd /k wsl sudo hamclock &
timeout /nobreak /t 5 >nul
start chrome.exe --new-window "http://127.0.0.1:8081/live.html"

5. Two Command windows and one Ubuntu window remain open (minimize these) and a new Chrome-browser windows with HAMCLOCK opens up. 

6. Reduce or enlarge the hamclock window with <control><+> or <control><-> (or the <control><mousewheel> ). For tablets this link might be useful.
