Ik hoor dat er Hunters en Activators zijn. Wat is het verschil?
Een zogeheten hunter is op jacht naar geactiveerde bunkers. De activators zijn de operators die bunkers activeren en met een specifiek nummer op de air waves te horen is.
Is dit alleen voor zendamateurs of mogen luisteramateurs ook meedoen?
Het programma Bunkers On The Air (BOTA) is voor alle amateurs. Het maakt dus niet uit of je luister- of zendamateur bent.
Hoe zit het bunkernummer in elkaar?
De internationale afspraak is dat een bunker nummer begint met "B/", gevolgd door de prefix van het land (voor Nederland dus "PA"), gevolgd door een volgnummer dat de Dutch BOTA organisatie beheert. Een voorbeeld van een bunker nummer in Nederland is "B/PA-0007".

Hoe begin ik als "Hunter"?
Als hunter is het verstandig om onze bunker site te lezen. Daar vind je ook een interactieve kaart met alle geregistreerde bunkers van Nederland.
Verder is het handig om een cluster in de gaten te houden. Dat kan met de open-clusters DXSUMMIT, DXWATCH of DXHEAT. Daar worden bunkers (herkenbaar aan hun identificatie B/prefix-####) veelal gespot met de frequentie waarop ze te horen/werken zijn.
Op welke manier houd ik bij welke bunkers ik heb gewerkt/gehoord?
Vanuit de internationale Bunkers On The Air organisatie (WWBOTA) is een excel opgesteld waarop je de bunker-contacten kunt bijhouden. Voor het aanvragen van een award is dit formulier geldig. Je kunt hem hier vinden. Het is dus niet de bedoeling (en het is ook niet mogelijk) om telkens je log per activiteit te uploaden zoals bij het POTA systeem: je moet bij het bereiken van een award niveau je excel insturen om in aanmerking te komen voor een award.
Ik hoor een bunker, maar hoe vind ik die op een kaart?
Op de Dutch BOTA organisatie site staat een interactieve kaart. Op die kaart, in de linker boven hoek, kun je de bunkerlijst ook openvouwen. Deze zijn gesorteerd op nummer.
Komen Nederlandse bunkers in aanmerking voor een BOTA-award?
De Nederlandse bunkers komen niet in aanmerking voor het international WWBOTA awards, maar wel voor de Nederlandse PABOTA awards. Deze Nederlandse award kun je aanvragen per mail:

De internationale WW-BOTA award kun je aanvragen via de site van WW-BOTA. Alleen QSO's vanaf 1 oktober 2024 zijn geldig. En alleen QSO's die zijn gemaakt met bunkers buiten Nederland. Er zijn drie niveaus:

- Zilver: 250 bunkers
- Goud: 500 bunkers

Hoe weet ik of er een bunker actief is?
Bunkers die actief zijn worden veelal gespot door operators op een cluster. Hou dus een cluster in de gaten. Dat kan met de open-clusters DXSUMMIT, DXWATCH of DXHEAT. Daar worden bunkers (herkenbaar aan hun identificatie B/prefix-####) veelal gespot met de frequentie waarop ze te horen/werken zijn.

Hoe begin ik als "Activator"?
Zoek een bunker uit op de interactieve kaart van de Dutch BOTA organisatie. Gebruik de nummers zoals aangegeven op de kaart.
Zorg dat je apparatuur operationeel is voordat je afreist naar een bunker. Let ook op je eigen veiligheid als je ter plaatse bent.
Meld je activatie vooraf aan op de WW-BOTA cluster pagina. Zo kunnen operators zich op je komst on the air voorbereiden.
Wat zijn de regels voor het activeren van een bunker?

- Alle bestaande oorlogsbunkers en schuilplaatsen komen in aanmerking voor activering.
- Activeringen moeten draagbaar of mobiel zijn, binnen een straal van maximaal 300 m van de bunker.
- Upload na activering het ADIF-bestand in een e-mail naar het PA-BOTA Team met een foto (JPG of PNG) die je coördinaten toont, bijv. met behulp van een GPSMap-app.
- Voor geldige HF PA-Bunker activaties moet je contact maken met minstens 25 stations. Je kunt zo nodig dagen- of wekenlang doorgaan.
- Voor geldige VHF/UHF/SHF PA-Bunker activaties, maak contact met minstens 10 stations.
- Activators mogen maximaal 5 bunkers per activatie indienen.
- Activators mogen zoveel activaties uitvoeren als gewenst.
- Activators mogen alle legale frequenties en modes gebruiken, behalve via repeaters of internet, die zijn niet toegestaan.

Hoe kom ik aan een bunkernummer als ik een nieuwe bunker wil activeren?
Het is fijn dat men nieuwe bunkers wil activeren. Maar dan is het gebruik van een bunker nummer wel noodzakelijk. Vraag deze per mail aan bij de PA-BOTA organisatie:

Who is the organization for the Dutch bunkers?
In the Netherlands there is a small team of operators who have taken care of the PA-BOTA organization. They are Patrick, PE2PVD and Erwin, PA3EFR. You can reach this organization through the general email address
I hear there are Hunters and Activators. What is the difference?
A so-called hunter is hunting for activated bunkers. Activators are the operators who activate bunkers and can be heard on the air waves with a specific number.
Is this only for broadcast amateurs or are listening amateurs also allowed to participate?
The Bunkers On The Air (BOTA) program is for all amateurs. So it does not matter if you are a listening or transmitting amateur.
What is the bunker number?
The international convention is that a bunker number starts with “B/”, followed by the prefix of the country (so for the Netherlands “PA”), followed by a sequence number managed by the Dutch BOTA organization. An example of a bunker number in the Netherlands is “B/PA-0007”.

How do I get started as a “Hunter”?
As a hunter, it is wise to read our bunker site. There you will also find an interactive map with all registered bunkers of the Netherlands.
Furthermore, it is useful to keep an eye on a cluster. You can do that with the open-clusters DXSUMMIT, DXWATCH or DXHEAT. There, bunkers (recognizable by their identification B/prefix-####) are often spotted with the frequency on which they can be heard/worked.
How do I keep track of which bunkers I have worked/heard?
From the international Bunkers On The Air organization (WWBOTA), an excel has been set up where you can keep track of bunker contacts. To apply for an award, this form is valid. You can find it here. So it is not the intention (nor is it possible) to upload your log per activity each time as with the POTA system: you have to submit your excel when reaching an award level to be eligible for an award.
I hear a bunker, but how do I find it on a map?
On the Dutch BOTA organization site there is an interactive map. On that map, in the top left corner, you can also unfold the bunker list. These are sorted by number.
Are Dutch bunkers eligible for a BOTA award?
The Dutch bunkers are not eligible for the international WWBOTA awards, but they are eligible for the Dutch PABOTA awards. You can apply for this Dutch award by mail:
How can I get an award for Hunters of WW-BOTA?
You can apply for the international WW-BOTA award through the WW-BOTA site. Only QSOs as of October 1, 2024 are valid. And only QSOs made with bunkers outside the Netherlands. There are three levels:
Bronze: 100 bunkers
Silver: 250 bunkers
Gold: 500 bunkers
How do I get an award for Hunters of PA-BOTA?
You can apply for the international WW-BOTA award by emailing your international excel log to the Dutch BOTA organization:

How do I know if a bunker is active?
Bunkers that are active are usually spotted by operators on a cluster. So keep an eye on a cluster. This can be done with the open-clusters DXSUMMIT, DXWATCH or DXHEAT. How do I get started as an “Activator”?
Locate a bunker on the interactive map of the Dutch BOTA organization. Use the numbers as indicated on the map.
Make sure your equipment is operational before you travel to a bunker. Also pay attention to your own safety when you are on site.
Report your activation in advance on the WW-BOTA cluster page. This allows operators to prepare for your arrival on the air.
What are the rules for activating a bunker?
- All existing war bunkers and shelters are eligible for activation.
- Activations must be portable or mobile, within a maximum 300 m radius of the bunker.
- After activation, upload the ADIF file in an email to the PA-BOTA Team with a photo (JPG or PNG) showing your coordinates, e.g. using a GPSMap app.
- Valid HF PA-Bunker activations require you to make contact with at least 25 stations. You can continue for days or weeks if necessary.
- For valid VHF/UHF/SHF PA-Bunker activations, make contact with at least 10 stations.
- Activators may submit up to 5 bunkers per activation.
- Activators may conduct as many activations as desired.
- Activators may use all legal frequencies and modes except through repeaters or the Internet, which are not allowed.
Important:
At the end of the activation, the Activator sends an ADIF file of the activation to the PA-BOTA team along with a photo of the location.
How do I get a bunker number if I want to activate a new bunker?
It is fine to want to activate new bunkers. But then the use of a bunker number is necessary. Request this by mail from the PA-BOTA organization:

You can apply for the international WW-BOTA Activator award through the WW-BOTA site. Only QSOs as of Oct. 1, 2024 are valid. There are three levels:

How do I get an award for Activators from PA-BOTA?
You can apply for the award for Activators with your excel-log to the PA-BOTA organization:

It is not the intention (nor is it possible) to upload your log per activity as with the POTA system: you have to send in your excel-log when you reach an award level in order to qualify for an award.
